Psychosexual Evaluations

Psychosexual evaluation is a comprehensive evaluation which focuses on an examinee’s sexual development, sexual history, healthy and unhealthy sexual interests/arousal (paraphilic interests), sexual adjustment, and level of sexual risk. This evaluation includes relevant record review, interview, psychological testing, and application of research relevant to the case.

The evaluation lasts approximately 2-6 hours face-to-face. Our office is unique in this type of assessment because we incorporate a gold standard test of sexual interest, the ABEL assessment. We also administer numerous objective measures such as the MMPI-3 and the PAI along with a comprehensive interview.

The ABEL- is an instrument used to measure sexual interest. The ABEL is a non-invasive computerized test that takes approximately 2 hours to complete. This instrument will assist in determining various treatment issues including:

  1. Separating those who have no interest in children from those who deny interest.
  2. Dangerousness (sadistic interest in violence vs. opportunistic offending).
  3. Violence to children
  4. Arousal to children
